Chain or timing belt? 1.3cdti

Hi guys,

Do the diesel engines run on a timing belt or chain? if a timing belt how often should i change it?

If its a chain do they need changing like a timing belt?

Sorry if it sounds obvious.

Would appreciate it if anyone could help.

I'm sure its a timing chain mate and it does not need changed. Correct me if I'm wrong though folks.

chain and they do advise at 100,000 or 150,000 cant remeber but the z13dt and z13dth are deffo chain, and there a CU*T to do

Ive no worries there mine will be long gone before it gets anywhere near that sort of mileage

im pretty sure the belt you can see is the auxillary belt that runs water pump, power steering and a/c if you have it. the chain itself is under the cam cover and cant be seen without removing it, but correct me if im wrong some one.

ok well that does sound about right, is the auxillary belt possibly causing the squeeling i get when you turn on the engine and when accelerating?

is it a squeeling or more of a dull whine? if its the whine then thats normal, well mine does it and so does my mates corsa thats chain driven.

If its the squeeling then yea probably the aux belt, one of my other mates cars does it, usually just needs tightning up and sometimes the belt and or tensioner needs changing but seeing as its a new car a tighten up would probably do. a local garage would be your best be for a tighten Vaux will probably tell you its something really major and charge the earth for it

thanks for the advice, im going to get it booked into a near garage and hopfully its just a matter of tightening the belt
