Stuck Oil Filter Housing

Good morning.

Done an oil change yesterday but I couldn't change the filter cause the filter housing is stuck, its on the back of the engine (A17DTS) and the access is plop plop. Does anyone know of any ideas or a special tool to use to get the little F****er off? Can't use a wrap around filter removal tool as the housing is very shallow plus it has a number of flutes so it can't get a grip (if that's the right word). My arm is aching and scratched to **** and my fingers are swollen from all my brute hard man strength I have trying to get the turd off :-D Any ideas will be great.

Thanks.

What I've done is taken a screens hot as I can view it on phone and I'll upload it for you. But in response to getting it off. I have had to get one off before that was behind engine but is was an astra J. Make sure your ratchet is in loosen mode (very easy to do trust me) and be sure to use correct size socket. You may need an extension or wobble extension but would of thought quite east to take off with correct socket and probably a 1/2 inch ratchet .

I've tried, it's 32mm socket. There isn't enough room to get an extension bar on there, the ratchet literally takes up all the room, such a poor engine design. I tried tightening to maybe break the seal and then back to loosen it again but that didn't work, even tried wd40 it but even that's nigh on impossible to do cause the space and access.

Abut of a tough one. Because even if u got the filter our elsewhere it's just the same issue at next service. All I can suggest is maybe trying a flexible head extension (see pic) so that u can put the socket on but then have an extension come out at an angle from behind the engine and attach ratchet further out of the engine bay. I'm assuming your taking of engine cover and disconnecting anything you can to remove to gain extra space e.g wiper cowl etc. Just be sure to take pics of things before hand. Failing that maybe take it to a garage and see if they will remove it for you for about £30.00 and simply ask them how they did it or ask if u can watch.

Yeah I agree to much effort for oil filter change. Defo give it try. You can get a complete set of 1/4 3/8 and 1/2" on ebay if you can wait. For a little.more than.halfords.compared to the one. Just be sure if u can to hold the socket down on the filter with one hand and try ratchet with the other. You may need an extra hand. It's just that as ur turning with h
This the socket can try slip off

I've got all the adapters etc, haven't had the weather to try it yet as its been ****ing it down. I did originally try and loop my hand around the other side but I can only get a finger tip on the socket so doesn't help whatsoever. hoping I can put the extension bar between the wiring and attached it to the adapter joint and see if I get some good leverage that way.
