    Bhups' 2009 RX8 R3

I picked up the car back in May and had been using for my daily 30 mile commute to work and back, but it just got a bit too expensive. I now have a 2004 Mercedes C180 Kompressor, which I use as my commute vehicle I average around 45mpg in that compared to the 19/20 I did in my RX8.

The only mods I have done so far is clean it massively (first weekend I had it, it got claybarred polished and waxed, and has more recently been done again and had 3 layers of wax.), Derestrict the airbox, and get wind deflectors.

Future plans include lower and wider, im really unsure on spacers and the risks that come along with it if you have any experience please let me know!

Other than that, possible an AEM intake and the Petite Racing catback. Maybe a decat/racing cat as i would quite like flames Click here to enlarge.

    - Snowfoamed with Autoglym Bodywork shampoo and washed(shuts and seals cleaned too)
    - Tar spots removed with Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover
    - Snowfoamed with Autoglym Bodywork shampoo and washed
    - Polished with Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine Polish (only one pass of the whole car by hand) paint was in good condition, only a few swirls
    - Wiped down with microfiber and Autoglym Rapid Detailer
    - Waxed with 2 coats of Autogylm HD wax (more to come next weekend)
    - Wheels removed, cleaned with Autoglym Wheel cleaner, Intensive Tar Remover inside and out
    - Painted Brake Calipers black, painted wheel weights black, painted rusted areas of the disk shroud and disk black.

So as mentioned above I got my hands on some wind deflectors off ebay.

I have never really been a fan of chrome and have really been interested in plasti dip for a while so got round to it and finally painted the badges and chrome accents black.

Then the car sat like this for a while and I just enjoyed driving it. Coming into the new year I had thought I would be selling the car and refrained from doing anything else, but one day I just bit the bullet and decided I really enjoy driving it and don't really want to sell it.

Now things start getting more serious Click here to enlarge

First up I had all the wheels off and started Plasti Dipping..

I really like the Matt black look.

Then I wanted more noise, so I took the car to John Ashley exhausts (down the road from me in Walsall)
And got a custom Decat made, and 4 Inch slash cut exhaust tips put on the standard back box. I feel like this is what mazda should have done from the start.

Much improved I think, I haven't got a proper video of it yet, but flames and pops and bangs Click here to enlarge

Then I started running out of rubber, so I got myself a set of Goodyear Eagle F1s but when they fitted the new tyres it also ripped the plasti dip off. (I have ordered more but yet to spray them again.
    (sorry about the blurry picture)

    More to come...

Next up I started thinking about audio upgrades, I have read alot of good stuff about sound deadening, and figured if it improves the audio and reduces some of the road noise the rx8 suffers from on the motorway its worth a shot.

After finding out that my 12" sub from my old car wouldn't fit, I managed to get my hands on a 10" Alpine Type R subwoofer in a ported box. I also had a set of 13cm alpine type E Component speakers lying around from my first car.

So I got to mocking stuff up.

Once I was happy it was going to be a good idea, I ordered a second Center rear pocket on ebay, and bought a large box of Dynamat.

    Then the Work began.

I measured then sketched out where I wanted the speakers to go.

Then having got the dremel out started work.

Once All of the cutting was done, I lined the inside of the pocket with Dynamat, and glued in the tweeters, screwed in the woofers. I also put some dynamat around the joins to try and prevent any vibrations.

I also cut a small hole for the speaker connections, I later changed the speaker wire to nicer looking black flat speaker wires.

I then test fitted them in the car to see how they looked

    Im pretty happy with them!

My paperwork then came through for my private numberplate, and I ordered a smaller plate for the front as well as some 150mm x 150mm x 30(I think)mm L Brackets, which I then cut down to size and painted black. (150mm is the minimum you need for the bracket to fit the standard undertray holes on the r3 bumper, but its too long and would stick out from behind the plate, thats why I cut them down.)

The standard front number plate holder is riveted on, took me a while to figure out, but ended up just drilling them out. Going to look for some grommets to fill the little holes left now.

I really like the look of the front end now, so much better without the plate in the middle.

Also because my plate has only a few characters they font is the correct size for it still to be legal.

So after picking up some more audio kit, I bought a 2000w wiring kit because I didnt want to risk running two amps on thinner cable. The amp for the sub is 1000w max 350 rms Lanzar amp and the amp running the door speakers in the center is a 300w max amp.

I began mocking up the amp stand.

I then Painted it black, It only has a support on one side, so that when its in the car it looks like it is floating.

I also recessed a little hole for a RCA splitter so that I could run both amps from one input.

The system is now in the car and it sounds much better over stock, although it is a bit strange hearing alot of the mid and high notes come from the center of the car.
I have so far dynamatted the boot and the floor of the back seats, theres still a bit of tidying up to do in terms of wires. I have ordered carpet for the sub box, so will be doing that when it arrives, and dynamatting the doors any anywhere i can find rattles.

Wheels got re dipped over the weekend and the calipers went red to match the car. Also repainted the fog light surround chrome bits, but took them off the car this time.
