I took a picture today to try and show how the car now looks on the 30mm eibach springs and bilstein b4 suspension.

In the next few weeks the 18Ē monza reps will be ready and Iíll be fitting them on asap.
So another side profile picture will be taken once they are on the car.

So Iíve just had a call from the guy whoís refurbished my wheels. He said they are all done, they just need the weekend to fully set. Iíve got to drop the tyres off on Monday evening and then I can collect them on Tuesday. The total cost is £230. Thatís wheels acid dipped, refurbished, painted, tyres fitted and valve& balanced.
Iím bloody excited to see how they are going to look.

Definitely some pictures to follow before and after etc etc.

The suspension change is night and day. The car feels firmer, sticks to the road better and definitely has less roll in the corners. It just feels nicer to drive but isnít a harsh ride like my corsa d was.
Obviously my standard suspension was knackered anyway, so I could tell the difference straight away when I collected the car.

Canít wait to get the new wheels and tyres on, this will complete the upgrade I wanted for Gina.

Eibach are simply the best. Tested on the actual cars. Must feel brand new. Those shocks were dodgy as hell from what you were saying. Probably bouncing up over bumps. The rainsport 3ís are decent too. Good for British weather with a wicked tread pattern. When will we see your restored rims?

Iím collecting them on Tuesday evening after work. Iím probably going to fit them on the car once I get them home.
The colour is going to be a surprise as I asked for a dark grey, but I didnít choose a specific colour/shade. I showed him a few pictures of the finish I wanted.
But Iím not too fussed, anything will be better than the state they was in.

The last person to own my car came from Sheffield, very hilly and loads of speed bumps, tram tracks, potholes etc etc, so your theory about the feel of the old shocks, is probably correct.

Iíve totalled the cost up for everything wheel related.

    Alloys won from eBay £80
    Uniroyal rainsport 3ís. £259
    Wheels refurbished. £230
    Total £569.

I saw refurbished monza wheels on eBay for about the same price, so Iím happy Iíve got the wheels I wanted, tyres I wanted and the wheels refurbished all for roughly the same cost.

So I collected my newly painted monza rep alloys today. I couldnít be happier, the place where I had them done, has excelled themselves.
I just canít my head around how good the wheels look compared to how they was.
So I rushed home and decided to get the wheel fitted tonight. (8pm-ish).

All was going well, Iíd got the old wheel off and was offering up the new wheel to the hub. I fitted 4 normal bolts and they fitted perfectly. When it came to the locking wheel nut, this is where things have gone sour.
The bolt goes in ok but the actual locking wheel nut key wonít go in enough to tighten the bolt up. The bolt holes diameter is smaller than my standard wheels.

Also to add insult to it all, the new wheel caps donít fit either, they simply wonít click in the the center hole.

So the car is still on itís 17Ē Porto standard alloys until I can get some smaller headed locking nuts.

Iím thinking the gti mk6 must have smaller locking wheel nuts, so I might have to buy them.

Iím gutted at the moment, but Iíll try get some locking nuts from Halfords or motosave or some other car parts store tomorrow.

I havenít driven the car yet with the new wheel/tyre combo, but Iíll know at 4am tomorrow on my way to work.
Obviously I need to check the bolts/nuts again after 100 or so miles, but Iíve always done that as a basic weekly check anyway.

Fitting the wheels on tonight has highlighted and issue though!, My undertray is missing afew screws and is flapping abit. Iím going to get the car on axle stands at the weekend and sort this out.
Also I believe my alternator clutch bearing is failing, itís rattling when the engine is revved. Not sure if itís something I can fix or a garage job.

Looks brill mate. Bet you are super chuffed. Get the alternator sorted. Those under trays are so annoying. What are your plans now? They rims turned out so well

    Gina. (Gt tdi golf)

Iím thrilled to bits with the quality of the refurb, and still amazed how cheap it was. Iím so happy with how Gina looks now.

The undertray needs 2 screws, one on each side, Iíll know more once Iíve had a proper look.

Iím going to nip to vw on Saturday, ask them to listen to the noise and get advise as what the issue is. I quickly googled earlier and it seams quite common that the bearing goes. Replacements are about £26-£35 but it requires a special tool kit to lock the alternator. If itís the alternator itself, Iím looking at £300+.
    Iíll know more soon.

Iím not doing anything else for a while, Iíve got my holiday at the beginning of next month and Iíve not saved any spending money for it yet.

Future plans for the car are, in no particular order,

    A Matt black sunstrip,
    Callipers painted red,
    Remap (stage 1, 180bhp),
    Upgrade the discs and pads,
Needs a service in the next 500 miles,
An R-line bumper, looks similar to my current one just slightly deeper at each corner.
    And just general tweeks

I want subtle mods for this car, not loud brash in your face mods. OEM+ is what Iím going for.

But things change, plans change, who knows.

Yeah i think itís the alternator clutch pulley/bearing. Itís not engaging when the engine is running, and itís causing the alternator to not charge the battery.

Iíve spoke to a vag specialist today and heís agreed to let me pop it down on Saturday morning to check it. He agrees with my diagnosis but still needs to confirm it.

So 8am on Saturday my car will be at LVS.

    Gina. (Gt tdi golf)

So Iíve just got back from LVS, they said the alternator clutch pulley/bearing is absolutely fine on my car, no play or give what so ever. I explained the noise I was referring to and even showed them.
They said the noise Iím hearing is the HPFP which is located (on my engine) above the alternator at the front of the engine. Apparently itís a normal noise for it, and I donít need to worry.
They opened the fuel filter next to the engine and found no shavings of metal, so they are saying there isnít an issue with the HPFP.

To be honest, Gina is coming up to a service interval very soon (due in 500 miles), so Iíll get the fuel filter changed whilst its having a service.

So thatís all I can say really, Iím not 100% convinced but Iím aware HPFPís can be noisy.

Iíve generally been using shell v power diesel, so I doubt itís a fuel issue.

Iíll just have to keep an eye or ear on it and if it gets worse, Iíll go straight to vw with it.

The issue with the flat battery, basically Iíve not been for a long run in the car for ages, so Gina probably needs a trip out somewhere to help charge the battery up.

He tested the battery volts without the engine running and it was where it should be.
When the engine was running, he said the alternator was charging the battery at the correct rate. So no issue there.

In fairness, Iíve only been going to work in Gina (9 miles there, 9 miles back), recently and no runs out anywhere. On top of that, Iíve been using my aircon loads due to the hot weather, so Iíve been loading the battery and itís not had chance to recover/recharge.

So I might go for a drive out tomorrow, to clear out the engine and to recharge the battery.

You should try upload the noise here via YouTube or something, get a few non basis opinions. You planning to service the behivle yourself?
