Hi, Im new to this forum so i hope ive posted in the right place.

Ive got a 1.3 CDTI Corsa. 5 weeks ago my oil light came on so i pulled over straight away and found oil in the water. I had the AA recover my car and i took it to my nearest Vauxhall dealership. They said the oil cooler had split :? and leaked into the water and not a problem witht he head gaskett as first thought. My car was 2 months our of warranty. the dealership gave me alot of conflicting information but finaly said it would cost around ÂŁ800 for a new oil cooler and housing and would take a few hours labour. Vauxhall had agreed to pay half the cost as the car is only just out of warranty. Long story short, they have now come back 4 weeks later!!! saying it will cost ÂŁ1600:yikes: and took 9.5 hours labour! Needless to say im not very happy and have refused to pay the amount until i have a full breakdown of costs. I rang Vauxhall who told me that the work should have only taken 2.1 hours to complete and should have not taken 4 weeks to do.. The dealership have been absolutely shocking and have continuously given me different information.

Has anyone else had this problem with the oil cooler? if so how much did it cost? or does anyone know how long it should take to fix?

Thanks

Georgie :)

I did one of these on a Vauxhall Combo a few months ago.

Think I charged the customer about between 350 - 450 quid in end, that was for fitting, and also doing 3 or 4 flushes of the cooling system with TFR to get rid of all the oil. ÂŁ1600 is ridiculous. With the front bumper off its relativly easy to do. Most of the cost is the clear up afterwards.

Did they replace anything other than the oil cooler? They should never of carried on with the work if it was higher than their iniatle estimate. Write to their head office if you having no joy with the dealership, be surprised how quickly stuff gets resolved that way. Good luck, hope you get it all sorted

Im sorry to hear about it.

I know the a few Vx dealers now charge ÂŁ90-95phr in labour. I would check the quotation if in writing to see if it includes labour. As Corsa Dave says if they replaced anything that they havent asked you 1st dont pay for the part

Hi

Thanks for the replies. The dealership are charging ÂŁ80ph but they are useless. They called me on xmas eve and said "so youve got your car back then" my reply was "no you still have it!!!" what sort of garage doesnt even know they still have the car there. Ive been dealing with Vauxhall Customer Services since the whole issue started so im going to keep fighting until its resolved. The dealership have been trying to blame the issue on the local garage that i use for my services and work just because he used a differnt oil to what they woud use. I told him what they said and he was not happy. Hes done all the work on my cars and ive never had an issue. I think its just a big company trying to ruin a smaller business.

I havent had a full list of parts yet as the service manager is off until New Year. Atleast i have their courtesy car to keep hold of untill im happy the price.

Thanks for your advice.

iirc you have to put a special oil in these new Vx's. I suppose if they havent used that then its the same as not using genuine GM parts for a service then that voids your warranty.

The oil is NOT an issue as long as its the same viscosity 5w30 and stipulate's
GM spec on the label,
It can be an issue if your using say 10/40 in a long life oil motor with a 20k service interval
Not having a dig at your spanner man or pointing fingers just using as an example...

Labour at dealerships are a joke go to the smaller garages. When I worked for DAF as a tech I was getting like ÂŁ11ph but the dealership was charging the customer ÂŁ120ph con artists, I suggest a Haynes manual and Internet to learn how to do it yourself or pay a smaller garage as there cheaper.

Hi

Is there anywhere on the net that shows the price so i can print it off and show it to the dealer? as i know they will argue with me.

Also in my service book it says the garage used 10w40. I dont understand all the different oils. Would that cause a problem with the car?
technically oil is oil,. that is until you want it to do different things. each ar company puts there own special mix into any blend so they know its theres, in some cases this is so you buy there stuff. but in most now with all the eco stuff. the oil is specific. I have a DPF with thte wrong oil I can destroy my DPF .

tgheyll go to the end of timeitself to prove you wrong so you foot the bill, they offer warrenty to assert there craftsmanship yet when it fails they wont admit its there fault.

you should never have been charged that much at all, I hope you've contacted Vauxhall to let them know they have a corrupt dealership. labour charges are ridiculous too but that's not changeable.

as said the jobs rather simple, as are most jobs. I hope you haven't paid what they are asking ?

Hi theorangebandit

No i havent paid it yet. Ive refused to pay untill i have a full breakdown of all the parts and labour. I contacted Vauxhall who told me they quoted 2.1 hours labour if the work had been done under warranty so im interested to find out how they can justify trying to charge me 9.5 hours. Ive been trying to find the cost of the man part they quoted me but for some reason i cant find the part anywhere online.

Best way to get prices is to phone up parts department and ask for an oil cooler for a 1.3 engine. I'm a mechanic and I know there's more to just the parts in the fianl bill . But no garage should keep your car for 4 weeks trying to do a job that takes 3 hours. Wouldn't be a bad idea to find out why they had the car so long it can't have been waiting parts the whole time. Some one likely ballesed up and covering there own arse. But wrongly trying to make you foot the bill ! I'm upset to hear that Vauxhall aren't being more pro active to deal with this problem. You may find your not the only unhappy customer
