I bought my car at the start of November when it was pretty cold at that time of year, and never switched the air con on. Except for when i wanted to clear the windscreen in winter, even then i just thought it was just being lousy and didnt realise it probably wasnt working. Until the other day, now that its finally warm enough, but to my dismay nothing happened? Im guessing its always been like this since i bought it.

It just blew out warm air :(, i even had the recirculation button on but that didnt help. Also the car didnt rev any higher when i switched the A/C on, and normally in every car i have been in you can tell when its switched on as it mummers away and revs ever so slightly higher. But all that seemed to come on was the little orange A/C light on the button.

Now i have a warranty with warranty direct, but i wanted to find out if this problem could be caused by the A/C needing re-gassing? As i know that wont be covered, unless something has gone wrong with the A/C itself. I think it may have gone caput as i cant hear it switch on and the compresser kick in etc? Just wondered if anyone on here would have an idea?

Really dissapointed :(

i has a problem with the A/C on my sri last year and it turned out to be the pipes near the precat, they had split and snapped, give them a check. I have heard quite a few people have had problems on the SRi and the VXR with aircon

If it's low on pressure the compressor won't kick in to prevent damage. Let a specialist look at it as it's illegal to work on aircon if you're not qualified and also illegal to regas a leaking system, they MUST be tested with nitrogen gas first to see if there is a leak.

As posted, get someone like Kwik Fit etc with an offer to do it, safer and you'll know whats what.

Incidently, it's always a good idea to run the aircon at least once a week, even in winter, to keep the system lubricated and to stop seals from drying out.

Would you mind? I dont wanna put you out like. Hopefully if it is the pump it will be covered by the warranty or would be even better if it just needs re-gassing.

Nightmare, its something i can live without for now i suppose :(

Cheers for the quick replies!

Well i finally took it into vx and it has a leak from one of the pipes :(

Been quoted £500 for new pipes and fitting!! What a joke :(. Does anyone on here by any chance know or could find me out the part number for the new pipe set? As will need the upgraded version of pipes to stop it happening again and will take it to MPG to have the work carried out!

i had mine done under warranty with vauxhall - £750 repair bill if it wasn't in warranty - what sort of age is yours?

Mines a 08 - had it done 3 days before warranty expired - although the car got its own back and then back wheel bearing went out of warranty!
