Corsa D (1.2 petrol) hesitance and lack of power under load

Hello.
My partner has a 2008 1.2 Petrol Corsa that has developed some hesitance and a distinct loss of power when under load (to a point where it will only do about 40mph up a decent length hill!). No warning lights, no error codes recorded as checked by local dealer.

It used to be fine and has only done 50k - I know a 1.2 is a slow car but this definitely has an issue compared to how it used to drive

I replaced the plugs and coil pack myself but this has made no difference (A delphi coil pack which, based on price of £80, I presumed to be OEM type quality).

Its now been at the local dealers for 3 weeks (true) at £99 per 'session'. They checked the timing as they thought it had skipped a tooth (!?) but it was fine. They are now saying coil pack (and are insisting that only a Vauxhall coil pack will do). Sounds like a load of cobblers but right now I have no choice but to pay the £200 they want for that coil pack alone!.

I've seen loads of chat about similar issues with Corsas (on here or just Googling) but rarely see how they were resolved.

Any help gratefully received!

Matt

Sorry to hear of troubles, annoying when it's an issue like this with no indication of what via an error code etc. In regards to the coil pack try an online vauxhall parts specialist like AutoVaux they maybe cheaper or even eBay but he sure they are selling it as genuine Vauxhall coil pack, although I would put it down to being aftermarket although Delphi is the provider of the Vauxhall coil packs. But I've change a fair few of these and used Delphi and had no issues with power.

The car needs to go back through basics, I would see if there are any vacuum leaks on the car via smoke test or spraying some brake cleaner, look at the throttle body and check that it is opening with the press of the gal pedal with key on. Also check the air filter isn't blocked, check the mad sensor / clean it.

Hey,
Firstly, I am no mechanic... However, my mum has a similar corsa d issue. Her car is also only 1.2 and very low mileage at 40k. I sometimes wonder if this is relevant to all the issues she has had with it! Anyway, it also got sluggish... Hubby is a mechanic and could find nothing wrong with it. So the car continued on with it's low mileage use and developed extreme sluggishness on take off... I wont go as far as to call it a flat spot but it wasn't a kick in the ass off it!
One day, I borrowed it for a drive way longer than it was used to and after a while motorway driving I got a steady yellow EML. I pulled over so Mr mechanic could humour me by pretending to check it out 😜 and when I stopped I noticed the revs were tardy in coming down. Not much but a clue all the same. Anyway, once home he checked for codes and it said clutch pedal switch and overfuelling. It always was a bit greedy for such a little car! So now, clutch pedal switch is fine but overfuelling is still work in progress! This may or may not give you a direction to check simply because this car had same symptoms for long time until it finally showed itself! Good luck!

Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate it.

The update so far isnt great. Car has been at local dealers for 3 weeks now. They changed the coil pack for a genuine one and it made no difference (to the 2 week old Delphi one that I fitted!), they stripped the engine to check the timing in case the chain had jumped (which was fine), and frankly they don't seem to have a clue.

It seems very much that without a car generating codes they really don't know where to go next! Really disappointing when we all consider a main dealer to be the ultimate expert (albeit the expensive option).

Can I really be considering scrapping a perfectly good car because the main dealer can't fix it!?

There are so many similar stories in the forums if you look back but so many don't offer the end to their story which is really frustrating!

. I wouldn't look to scrap it, the main dealer is often a misconception. People think they will know best but what you often find they hire younger kids who just don't have the know how yet, so they need codes to give them a rule of direction. What I would suggest is looking for a vauxhall specialist garage (with good reviews) . Obviously dealers will come up in the search but Vauxhall specialist are usually ran by people who worked at dealers and then had a love for the brand and carried out to make more on their own.
