Guide to engine codes

Just been reading a guide, so I thought I'd post the details up on here incase anyone's interested

The first digit of the code relates to the emissions regs the engine meets.

Z = euro 4
Y = euro 3
X = euro 2
C = euro 1

Cars made before the emissions regulations have no letter at the start of the code.

The next 2 digits are the capacity.

For example, the 20 in C20 XE means 2 litre.

The next letter is the compression ratio.

G = 8 to 8.5:1
L = 8.5 to 9:1
N = 9 to 9.5:1
S = 9.5 to 10:1
X = 10 to 11.5:1
Y = 11.5+:1

The next digit relates to the fuelling.

D = diesel
E = multi-point injection
Z = single-point injection
V = carburettor

Some engines have an extra code at the end, if they are different from normal

For example:

H = high output
R = increase output
T = turbo
V = volume model
B = IBC (Inverted Brayton Cycle, in laymens terms, the recurculation of gasses)
C = Corporation ignition system
F = Vehicles for Authorities
H = High output / Supercharging
I = Irmischer
J = Throttled Output
K = Komplex
L = Low output / Supercharging
P = Power Adapted
R = Increased Output
T = Turbo
U = Uruguay
V = Volume model
W = Venezuela
2 = Family II engine

Nice to see someone trying to help everyone out though. :)
Ofcourse :)

Heres an extra added bit which shows what the last digit means:

The last digit on the end of the code will denote if an engine differs from a sister engine, is produced in another counrty, or any factory exra bits! As follows....
B = IBC (Inverted Brayton Cycle, in laymens terms, the recurculation of gasses)
C = Corporation ignition system
F = Vehicles for Authorities
H = High output / Supercharging
I = Irmischer
J = Throttled Output
K = Komplex
L = Low output / Supercharging
P = Power Adapted
R = Increased Output
T = Turbo
U = Uruguay
V = Volume model
W = Venezuela
2 = Family II engine

CORSA VXR Z16LER = Euro 4, 1598cc, compression ratio 8.5-9.1, multi point injection, increased output(189Bhp standard map).
CORSA SRi Z16LEL = Euro 4, 1598cc, compression ratio 8.5 -9.1, multi point injection, Low output(147bhp standard map).

they really are quite similar

Going by the lists above:
A = Euro 5 emissions compliant
16 = 1.6L
E = Multi point injection (injector per cylinder)
R = Increased power output.
Aye, thanks. That was the assumption I made, but wanted to have confirmation from someone who knows.
