Hi there,

In dire need of some advice: my corsa d is having issues with a faulty EGR that’s stuck open. I had the dpf forced regened by a specialist after the car failed to regen itself and presented the flashing coil light for £230 before I get my new EGR fitted. I was supposed to get the valve fitted last weekend but it’s now been pushed to the weekend coming and I’ve driven the car a couple times for work but the dpf light has kept flashing.

Took the car on a long run after regen and the light came back on again, rang the specialist and he said the ecu could be giving a false reading due to the EGR valve fault. Would this be true in this case?

Also spoke to a Vauxhall Mechanic, in case the guy who’s fitting my EGR backs out again, who quoted me £750 for a replacement egr and another forced regen on the dpf. Informed them that the dpf had already been forced regened but he seemed to insist the car would still need one and also a service despite already changing the oil and filter. Is he just trying to pull a fast one on me?

I’m a girl so I’m quite cautious of mechanics trying to pull one over on me. Any help would be appreciated before I end up losing my mind

As the oil and filter hasn’t long been changed I suspect it’s just vx covering their backsides, the egr will need changing and the codes re setting then keep in mind every month or so it’ll want a good run out to get it nice and hot to burn all the crud out of the system. Re setting the codes is fairly easy, either a code reader from Halfords/eBay etc for £15-25 and do it yourself or I’ve heard disconnecting the battery for half a hour does the job, which is ok if you’ve the radio code! Just hope your eye man comes through for you. Good luck and keep us all posted how you get on.

The added oil and service, he isnt wrong as regens can add diesel into your oil, this is probably as Dave said covering his own back, but it's not a bad idea. Cz if something did happen you would of wished you would of done. But yes you probably.be ok if didn't, but just no it not 100 guarantee. Where abouts are you based?

Thanks for your replies, thought I’d respond once the car has been sorted :)

So EGR man ordered the wrong part last weekend though wasn’t his fault, had to go direct to Vauxhall to get the right part. He fitted it, also replaced the radiator which had been leaking coolant :S

Car drives like a dream, a lot more power! Set off and took it up the motorway as the DPF light came on, after 5 minutes the light went off and has stayed off since.

Took it for another spin yesterday and the service light came on and stayed on whilst the engine was running indicating an engine problem. EGR guy no longer had anything to program the ECU with at the time of changing the EGR so guessed it might be linked to that. Disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and after a couple minutes the light went off. Hoping it’ll stay off, I also bought a cheap fault code reader like Dave suggested and read no faults beforehand too. If it doesn’t, I guess that’s another discussion

Thanks for your replies, helped me stay sane! :)

I had my EGR valve replaced at a local garage (when i owned the diesel) and he didn't program the ECU i think someone may be feeding you BS, if this has been fixed you shoulnt be having to take the battery lead off.

Did he replace the EGR valve with a new one or clean the old one?

How much did he charge for the full job?.

He fit a new EGR Valve. It was £251 for the valve, £50 for a new radiator and £60 for the work including 6 litres of coolant. Also had the DPF regened for £230 beforehand.
Not sure why the service light came on with no fault codes showing, I suppose now only time will tell

I had mine done at a local garage (not Vauxhall) and when i went for a price the owner said its a ******* of a job i tried a few other garages and they all said the same i would be very surprised if a mechanic would do all that work for £60 alarm bells were ringing as soon as i read that.

It will take a minimum of 4 hours to properly do all of those things. To change the radiator, the front bumper has to come off. To change the egr valve on a 1.3l diesel is a nightmare. I did it twice myself, first time using a poor Chinese part (never again), second time using a good EAM part. Having known what to do It took me 2.5 hours the second time for the egr valve. The wiper blades, rear scuttle, battery all have you come out to make room.

Apologies, I should mention this issue is now resolved.

DPF had first been regened as advised by Vauxhall mechanic.
Next, my mechanic fitted an EGR valve straight from Vauxhall and also a radiator, and filled with 6 litres of coolant.
After a test drive, engine light and DPF light went off. Car drives perfect.

Total cost was £630 including tip for mechanic rather than £750 quoted by Vauxhall.

Car is fine now except for a separate issue including a faulty seized glow plug which will be dealt with by a local specialist. Wasnt looked after by the previous owners but will be now.

Thank you for all your help.

P.S. fault codes were P0404/0402 in case someone else is having same problems with EGR.
