So I had a key for my 2015 corsa that I thought I had lost (with no spare) so I called a specialist to create me a new key.

I have not lost that new key 2 years later but I have found the original key that I lost.

The original key still locks the car, turns on the radio but when I press the clutch down and try to turn the engine on I get a message saying ""Service Theft Deterrent System".

What should I do about this original key?

Can I get is recoded? Or do I have to get a new key made?

Thanks for any insight!

Did he just make you a key without connecting to the car.

The safest thing if you lose a key is to get a new key, and have it coded to the car, but to delete all keys, and relearn the keys you actually have, to prevent someone finding the key, pressing the central locking and then they know which car the key fits.

Maybe this is what happened, and in that case, anyone with coding equipment can relearn the key into the system.

When my parents had a bad key, i bought my dad a new one from vauxhall, and coded it myself with Opcom (Was Corsa C though)

If am reading this right you have 3 keys the original and new key both work and the second original doesn't, i am sure you can get it reprogrammed but i would put it somewhere safe and use the other two..

Basically I lost a single key that was made because I lost my main key and I was in a different city and didn’t have access to the spare key.

So I had to get a new key cut. I’m guessing they created the new key and wiped both original keys of the system. I endedup finding the key Ilost so now I have both the original keys that first came with the car but they obv have been removed.

I was calling around so many companies explaining and they were trying to rip me off saying **** like:
  • you can’t reprogram keys
  • you need a new key cut whcuh will be £180,
  • another comp was like they would be able to reprogram but there is a risk of it not working in a years time.
  • reprogram 1 key is 100, 2 keys is £200

so many sly companies trying to do one.

luckily I have found an awesome company that reprogrammed both keys for £75!
Happy days
