Common problem on my dads 2.4 turbo diesel Alfa Romeo. The EGR valve is blocked closed with soot. Basically meaning the exhaust gases arn't getting 'recycled' through the system properly so the car will go into safe mode until the valve moves freely again.

All you need to do is locate the EGR valve (easy to get at in Alfa, not sure of location in Corsa) then remove it and clean out all the junk so you can move the butterfly valve easily. Then the ECU will probably need reset to take the car out of safe mode. A garage will probably charge about £50 for this, however, programs that do the exact same thing can be found online for around £15, they come with the hardware for connecting to car to your laptop aswell, so you can always reset the ECU or check engine status codes for free rather than giving the robbing dealership garages more money. Again through, I'm not sure exactly what one to get for Corsa. My dads is compatible for all Italian cars and was £12.50 new from EBay.

the garage that replaced the turbo said they cleaned out the egr valve so i guess ill have to try a new egr
or clean it myself

 

Yea buddy have a look yourself, if they have cleaned it properly and the valve is clean and free moving then the ECU probably just needs reset, the fault code will have stored in the system and not corrected itself.

If still no joy try a new valve and reset ECU again.

the 1.7 CDTi engine isnt prone to EGR failer oddly :\

So best bet is get it off and clean depending how bad it looks, replace and then blank it off as it will stop it happening again, only down side is you will have the emmions light on all the time on the dash!

Once the fault is fixed, it should come out of limp mode straight away.. if not disconnect the battery for 20-30 min and then reconnect and see if it started up in limp mode, if not then you might need to pop to the garage to get the code cleared by tech 2 or other dignostics.

well took it to the garage and bad news he advised that there were metal particles on the intake pipe leading into the
turbo and that the turbo and egr were both seized. give me list of fault which
are
Fault code0100 Air flow/air mass meter
Fault code0110 INTAKE AIR TEMP SENSOR
FAULT CODE0299 BOOST PRESSURE
FAULT CODE242F DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR
he advised to take the car back to turbo pacs who fitted the turbo to tell he has fitted it incorrectly as it should not
have seized and should not have metal particles going around the engine.

guessing the car is out of warrenty. i have not had as many issues as you by far is the turbo a more powerful one than standard? as that could cause problems and also do you just do short journeys in it? pm me mate as im not on the site that often but do check my e-mails daily.

update turns out there was collapsed cat and another turbo put on the car and the egr cleaned for £1500 by the dealer and now the car is sorted.
it drives fine
