Had this problem with my girlfriends car... Just check when you replace the bulb, that the unit has the actual connections properly connected to the actual fitting

 

Think the bootlight is controlled via the boot handle microswitch, it could have failed?

I'll check the bulb wires and see. Hopefully it will be as simple as you have said yours was.

How do I know if I need a new microswitch? And where is it?

All wires were attached and it doesn't work still.

Any other ideas?

Where is this "microswitch"?

I think it's built into the boot release mechanism, when you press the handle to open the boot the light comes on then, l'll have a look in my Haynes manual and post back tomorrow.

I've checked the wires going into the actual boot light. One wire is live and the other I assume is earth.
However the light does not come on even though the bulb actually works when I test it on a battery.

I guess from this, that the wire I assumed is earth has lost its connection somewhere. When I connected this to earth on the car them the bulb worked. So this wire has lost its connection somewhere.

Help! What's wrong and how do I fix this.

Looking at the wiring diagram the boot light earths via the boot opening handle. Does the boot pop open ok when you press the release?

Thanks. It's really odd as there is definitely electric coming to the bulb, I tested it. Also the bulb works too. I tested it many times on a battery.
I am assuming the earth side of the bulb isn't connecting to the car.

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but did you manage to sort your boot light? I'm having the same issue. Tried different bulbs. If I touch a multimeter to the bulb and the car chassis I get a reading of 12v..

 

I'm having this exact same thing! I can't figure it out. The boot light metal contacts are reading 12v - yet when a bulb is in there (festoon type), no light. Bulb works in the interior light fitting though.

I can't get my head around this - what could possibly be the issue? Someone please help explain this!

 

From what l can gather this must an earthing issue either through the microswitch in the handle or the BCM, any Vx techs on here any ideas?

 

use a tester mate see if there is any power going in to the boot light

 

Mate check the fuse, theres a fuse box in the glovebox check in there let me get you the number for the fuse..

So yesterday was going to change the bootlight to a white SMD and when i removed the old bulb the welcome light and the other 2 sidelights went off and they are not working now, even the white SMD that i fitted in the bootlight is not working... what happened? this happened when i removed the old bulb from the bootlight.

 

Do they still not work when you replace with a new bulb?

 

Yes, even when i put again the old bulb it doesn't work at all... but why the 3 lights are not working also?

 

You probs broke the fuse, due to fiddling! That's what I did haha! Change the fuse
