Might of been of help to Backup the Manufacturer Firmware before altering the Firmware Variables. Then you could transfer the Manufacturer Firmware to the new ECU with exact variables set to your Car. Zero hasstle, and you can just Flash multiple ECU`s, so they are at hand when water damage breaks one (Plug & Play)
From what i gather, as long as you keep the drainage holes near the ECU clear, your ECU will last longer, as its a flaw in placement of the ECU.
Maybe Vauxhall should provide a free Extension Kit so that it can be placed in a more plausable place, with instructions of course

or make it a viable CallBack so they can correct their errors; they do it for AirBags. Though i suppose if you crash because of lack of Health and Safety, thats an issue, though the Life of your Car is not, unless its chargable.
